Biomass Hot Water Solutions
We assist clients to install biomass for process applications, allowing for optimum performance from the boiler operation.
EXAMPLE: A food manufacturer is running oil-fired steam boilers to obtain five tonnes of saturated steam for his process. The factory operates 10 hours per day, five days per week. There is 80% condensate returned back to a common hot-well at 90˚C and the short fall is made up of feed water which is supplied on average at 10˚C. The owner was considering a biomass solution that would replace the complete boiler plant but this was going to be a very expensive and disruptive exercise (costing more than £1.5m and requiring two weeks of ‘downtime’). The payback was not favourable (more than seven years).

OUR SOLUTION: We proposed that the factory owner install a fully containerised 100KW biomass boiler with thermal store in order to heat the feed water before the hot-well. It was estimated that is would cost in total £50k. But with a grant of 40%, the entire installation would cost less than £30k. Using his fuel at 1.7p/kWh, the savings against his oil cost for operating this biomass boiler was estimated to be £10.5K per annum. The payback on this proposal was less than three years, a far better option than originally proposed.
The benefits of Biomass heating if designed and installed properly:
- Carbon reducing
- Cost effective,
- Low risk option.
